PECULIARITIES OF LOGICAL CATEGORIES REPRESENTATION IN THE UNDERLYING FORMS OF TECHNICAL TERMS

Abstract:  The article reviews the issues of some logical categories representation in the underlying form when technical terms are coined. The research is based on the data bases of technical terms that belong to the fields of science that remain the priority in Russia, among which are military terminology, terminologies of nanotechnology, IT, space research, genetics and ecology. 
The author analyses mechanisms and tendencies that are characteristic of different categories representation and considers the distinctive relationship between categories representation and the use of productive term elements that in some cases leads to the establishment of explicit term oppositions. 
Some regularities in different terminologies related to the issue are discussed. We also examine possible reasons that govern the choice of word to serve as a term element that is relevant for a particular category.
