EVALUATIVE INTERPRETATION OF TOLERANCE IN INTERNET COMMUNICATION

Abstract:  The paper reports on a linguocognitive analysis of explicating negative attitudes towards tolerance in texts published on the Internet. The aim of the research is to identify the linguistic specifics of criticisms of tolerance and conceptual features of TOLERANCE causing rejection.
The novelty of this work lies not only in the problem statement, but also in the method for its solution, in particular, in the creation of a specialized mini-corpus, which we analyzed to achieve the aim of the research. The corpus, compiled semi-automatically withBootCaT[Baroni and Bernardini 2004] and consisting of 73952 tokens (1.01 MB), was processed with Mystem 3.0 [URL: https://tech.yandex.ru/mystem] and AntConc [Anthony 2004].
The author analyzed the contexts where lexemes with the root –toleran- were used, to reveal six linguistic structures most commonly employed to express negative attitude towards tolerance. Additionally, the author found seven conceptual features of TOLERANCE that attracted most criticism.
Our research contributes to clarifying the role of TOLERANCE in the Russian national concept sphere and exposes some important aspects of the concept in question, which were mostly omitted in other papers.
