FACTORS OF CO-REFERENT INDIRECT NAMES INTERPRETATION IN TEXT: COGNITIVE ANALYSIS – STATISTICS – EXPERIMENT

Abstract:  The article presents the research method of triangulation in parametric analysis of textual interpretation, where a written text containing co-referent and co-ordinate indirect non-entrenched names with direct names in pre-position serves as the object of study.
The empirical study of contemporary prose Russian written texts demonstrates the interplay between co-referent indirect names introduced within the text and their major linguistic exponents. Cognitive and corpus analyses allow to hypothesize and evaluate several linguistic parameters synchronizing with co-reference in indirect naming, such as the presence of identifying attributes in pre-position, transitive verbs in pre-position, co-reference distance shortening, etc.
The author defines corpus binary correlations as well as some resonant correlations as true of animated referents. The oculographic analysis is applied to verify the corpus data and the parametric correlation values. Parametric correlation is tested through the psychological parameters of fixations and saccade duration and the referent identification index. Thus, the factors of parametric salience, synchronization and resonance are explored. The experiment reveals some strong correlations in linguistic, psychological, narrative, heuristic, and individual parameters.
