Abstract:  The article gives an overview of key theoretical assumptions and concepts as dominants of Linguistic Interpretation Theory. These dominants provide the framework for arguing several theoretical positions to deepen a theme of Intercultural Communication.
The authors assume that the success of intercultural communication greatly depends upon conceptual cooperation between its participants, and that conceptual cooperation involves negotiation of meanings within contexts of knowledge that are specified into contexts of collective and individual sociocultural knowledge. Within this view, they discuss challenges of intercultural interactions in terms of: a) how conceptual systems of different participants are structured and correspond culturally; b) what constitutes the content of conceptual systems; c) whether adequate evaluations of conceptual systems of interactants match; d) the degree of linguistic competence and linguistic performance; e) the mechanisms and cognitive construals that underlie language use in verbal communication.
The focus of the research is to demonstrate areas that could bring about misunderstandings and to discover universal principles (in the article, for the Russian and English languages) that constitute intercultural communication challenges. Awareness of these challenges can help overcome failures in intercultural interaction.

Keywords:  linguistic interpretation, conceptual system, challenges of intercultural communication,
contexts of collective and sociocultural knowledge, conceptual cooperation.
