Abstract:  The urban text of a modern metropolis is the text of both the real world and the virtual space. Internet space in the modern world has become a kind of genre-generating environment. There are creolized genres that combine iconic and verbal components: hashtags, advice, posts, cartoons, strip comics, demotivators, etc.
The subject matter of our research is demotivators (demonstration posters) that are spread in urban space. The purpose of the work is to analyze the urban demotivators of Ufa in the Internet space.
In the course of our work, we used both theoretical (analysis of the theoretical base on the subject, classification) and practical (descriptive, communicative, cognitive and emotional analysis) research methods. Empirical material was collected on the Internet, including groups in the social network “Vkontakte”.
Urban demotivators appear as an instant response to current urban events and therefore they can be called a kind of chronicle of the life of the metropolis. The spread of demotivators is facilitated by the techniques of language play (precedent phenomena, grotesque, irony, the “expectation-reality” technique, colloquial vocabulary, black humor, etc.).
Demotivators due to their humorous orientation have a great educational potential, especially for young people, among whom the genre is popular.
