REFLECTIONS ON CONCEPTUAL COMPOSITION OF TEXT

Abstract: 
The article deals with intersemiotic transformations, in particular with transformation of composition of graphic text into composition of verbal text. Therefore, “composition” is one of the key terms of the article. Another key term is “perceptional conception of text composition” which means reader’s (viewer’s, listener’s) understanding what principles determine position of objects or parts in a text as a whole. In the process of perception composition of an original text turns into a new version of composition in a derived text, with new additional meanings and shades of meanings reflected in the text. In the article this result of composition perception is called “conceptual composition”.
In the article the authors describe the method of researching the conceptual composition. This method includes several types of analysis, each treating the problem in a different way. In order to re-search conceptual composition experimentally the authors analyse 32 derived texts presenting the descriptions of a Russian painting.
The following items are the results of the research.
Dominants (dominant objects, positions) of graphic and verbal text coincide.
Verbalization process goes from left to right. Perhaps it is connected with European reading and writing stereotype.
There are several principles of grouping objects: close position, subject principle, gestures / looks.
Part of composition of graphic text turns into semantics of verbal text and becomes part of conceptual composition.
Therefore, we can say that there are some principles of intersemiotic transformation. Further research would provide more information of the perception process and general principles of any intersemiotic transformation.
