SEMANTIC UNCERTAINTY AS A PHENOMENON OF CONFLICT-FREE COMMU-NICATION: COGNITIVE-PRAGMATIC APPROACH

Abstract:  The article analyzes semantic uncertainty as a phenomenon of conflict-free communication within the cognitive-pragmatic approach.
The aim of the study is to consider the cognitive basis of this phenomenon, which includes a description of the role of the intersubjectivity factor in the construction of knowledge and models of intersubjectivity, highlighting the conceptual characteristics of these models. It is also planned to reveal the impact potential of semantic uncertainty, taking into account two models of intersubjectivity. The main research methods include a conceptual analysis, cognitive modeling, as well as discourse analysis.
As a result of the conceptual analysis, we established the characteristics of the concept UNCERTAINTY. Basing our observations on the cognitive modeling method, we identified two models of intersubjectivity and determined their characteristic features in accordance with the means of representation. The use of the method of discourse analysis made it possible to clarify the interpretation of the speaker’s intentions and all the hidden meanings associated with the concept of semantic uncertainty.
It has been determined that vague constructions make it possible to reduce the categorical meaning so as not to provoke a conflict in communication, however, this is not always accompanied by an equivalent interpretation of the speaker’s intentions on the part of the addressee.
