SYNTACTIC PROCESSES AND PHENOMENA OF GRAMMATICALIZATION, IDIOMATIZATION AND ANALYTICIZATION

Abstract:  The article examines the syntactic processes of re-decomposition, simplification, contamination, contraction and ellipsis in relation to the phenomena of grammaticalization, idiomatization (phraseologization) and analytization based on the methodology of grammar of dynamic language transformations. The consequence of these processes is the development of grammaticalization and analytization of linguistic units, the degree of manifestation of which is gradual. Hence, a certain degree of grammaticalization and idiomatization may already be present at the level of some types of free phrases and sentences.
Syntactic processes of re-decomposition and simplification can be accompanied not only by a change in syntactic relations while maintaining the relevance of new relations within a linguistic unit, but also by their complete de-actualization, therefore they should be interpreted more broadly. It is valuable for the idiomaticity theory to establish a new source of idiomatization of linguistic units. At the same time, the syntactic processes of re-decomposition and simplification are a tool that is more relevant for the grammar of free syntax, because in idiomatic units, including syntactic relations, they are partially or completely “erased”. Hence, syntactic re-decomposition, simplification and syntactic idiomatization should still be distinguished.
The syntactic processes of contamination, contraction and ellipsis operate exclusively in the system of free syntax and are not related to idiomatization.
All the syntactic processes studied are processes of syntactic derivation, however, they may relate to its various types – linguistic (re-decomposition, simplification) or speech (contamination, contraction, ellipsis), as well as to various types of dynamics – synchronic or diachronic.
